The bank holiday weekend always pulls a great crowd in to the city centre and Manchester’s newest neighbourhood, First Street, has revealed a host activities and special offers for visitors across the three-day weekend.
The new neighbourhood, which sits under the arches opposite the Hacienda Apartments on Whitworth Street, offers a convenient spot to eat and drink for students, families and revellers, many of whom will also be attending Manchester Pride this Bank Holiday weekend.
First Street’s flagship occupier, HOME is running a series of distinctive events which take inspiration from the human brain. The This is Human takeover is running right through the month until 31 August. This distinctive and ambitious series of events looks into the brain’s four main areas which control emotion, movement, biological rhythm and sense, culminating in sensory installations, live performances and interactive experiences.
Since launching in 2015 HOME has continued to pull in crowds, with almost 800,000 people visiting the art complex this year alone.
On Sunday 27 August, as part of the This is Human takeover at HOME, families can also enjoy an 11am screening of the classic animated movie Chicken Run.
For those looking to enjoy a few drinks this weekend the colourful GINNSIDE Terrace is open at the INNSIDE Manchester Hotel, offering a great south-facing spot to watch the world go by. Over the weekend INNSIDE will be offering three cocktails for £20 while another First Street favourite venue, The Laundrette continues its 20% discount throughout the entire month of August. The Laundrette’s legendary Bottomless Brunch on Sunday 27 will satisfy the appetites of the hungriest visitors including the students living in First Street’s magnificent Vita Student accommodation.
One of First Street’s newest residents, Bassano Bar at Pizza Express, is staging a ticket-only, Italian Cocktail Masterclass on Friday 25 August. And, bringing a touch of Swedish heritage to the city The Liquor Store is hosting a dedicated, three-day Rekorderlig event that will turn one of the city’s favourite drinking venues into a summer cider-themed extravaganza.
The Gasworks Brew Bar will also be serving up a fine array of home-brewed and guest beers so there is plenty of choice over the Bank Holiday.
And the celebrations will continue throughout the month as two of First Street’s new restaurants open to the public. Visitors can look forward to the launch of MasterChef winner Simon Wood’s much-anticipated new restaurant Wood Manchester which opens on 31 August.
Junkyard Golf Club is also relocating to First Street and opens its doors on 01 September, with two mashed up crazy golf courses, lots of loud music and colourful cocktails.
The estate’s independent occupiers sit alongside Pizza Express, Sainsbury’s and Starbucks, which are already well established in the neighbourhood.
The final one of the estate’s independent operators Kettlebell Kitchen, will open the doors to its second unit in the city later in September seeing First Street fully-let and open for business.
