What will you become this Christmas?
This Christmas, we’re inviting visitors to step into a world of imagination as IMAGINE, a free interactive experience created in collaboration with SUPERMASSIVE, comes to Tony Wilson Place at First Street.
Launching at 6pm on Thursday 12 November, IMAGINE transforms the heart of First Street into an AI-powered festive playground. Visitors simply step in front of a giant interactive screen and tell it what they’d like to become. Using real-time artificial intelligence and body-tracking technology, the installation transforms them into a festive version of their chosen character, from dancing dinosaurs and magical creatures to completely unexpected creations.
Created by Manchester-based creative technology studio SUPERMASSIVE, the team behind acclaimed immersive digital experiences across the city, IMAGINE combines art, technology and play to create a unique experience for visitors of all ages.
The installation forms part of our Winter at First Street programme, alongside the return of LAZERIAN‘s much-loved geometric polar bear sculptures and festive activations from HOME, House of Social and our wider First Street community.
Jamie Hills, Development Director at Ask Real Estate, said:
“Art and culture have always been at the heart of our placemaking approach for First Street. We’re excited to collaborate with Supermassive and bring Imagine as a free, interactive experience for everyone to enjoy. This approach builds on our partnerships with LAZERIAN and Short Supply to ensure First Street remains a destination for culture in the city.”
Visitors will also have the opportunity to win a £250 prize, with some of the most imaginative creations featured across First Street and SUPERMASSIVE’s social media channels. Further competition details are to be announced.
IMAGINE will be free to experience throughout the Christmas season, with interactive experiences available during both daytime and evening hours.
